We are not theatre goers, I have been to a handful of shows and usually come away thinking it is all so amateur dramatic, all that cardboard scenery spoils it, I’d rather see a film any day, but this one was different. We chose this show because I love the music and it is now such an iconic opera, so popular for so long so many people can’t be wrong. We picked London because I felt it would be the most professional venue with the best quality stars. We were not disappointed. With Anna O'Bryne as Christine and Marcus Lovett as The Phantom in this grade II listed theatre, which is over a hundred years old and surprisingly small but quite exquisite. The music was provided by an orchestra and made your hair stand on end in parts. The actors/opera singers were brilliant, all of them, clear, crisp, powerful voices with an amazing operatic range, they really made me believe the story. We saw members of the audience moved to tears and I must admit to feeling moved myself. I was glued to it, totally immersed. The part that impressed me the most was the scenery of the underground cavern with all the candles and chandeliers, the boat and the best song of the whole opera, the title song. I would go again and I recommend it highly.
